Pomena lies on the north-west coast of the island of Mljet and provides protection from all winds. The Bora creates an unpleasant swell but no large waves, except in front of the quay of the hotel. These berths, however, are often occupied by excursion boats. Yachts can moor with mooring lines on the eastern side in front of the restaurants where the water is between 1.5 and 3.5 metres deep. Mooring is free of charge as long as you also dine at the restaurant it belongs to. However, the prices can be quite high.
Pomena is surrounded by green pine forests, the air smells of wild herbs. Once a safe anchorage has been found, it is the perfect starting point to explore the National Park and its two inner lakes.
There are two small supermarkets, a post office as well as rental stations for bicycles and scooters in the village.
