The fort Spanjola, known as Spanish Fort, was built between 1282 and 1551. The fort consisted of 4 round towers, several storage buildings, a cistern, a prison and a chapel. Nearly all citizens of Hvar take shelter during the Turkish attack in 1571 here. At the end of the 16th century, the Spanjola was renovated and expanded. Today a museum, a restaurant and a discotheque are located in the historical building.
