poiDetails.description

On the island of Rhodes, the largest and most important island of the Dodecanese, located at the northern tip of the eponymous capital is the great Rhodes Mandraki harbor. Being close to the island's international airport, many charter companies are present which use the harbor as an ideal starting point for a cruise to nearby islands and defend their moorings rather rudely against “invading” guests. The yachts are moored on the weekends sometimes even in the second or third row, simply because there’s not enough space. Those wanting a safe berth should contact one of the local service agencies that can book a berth without payment. If they do find a free space without paying, dock the boat carefully because crossing the anchor on the ground and a mooring line can complicate things. The sanitary facilities consist of a simple container and can barely withstand the rush over the weekends. Condition and cleanliness can only be described as "modest". When entering, 3 windmills on the eastern pier serve as landmarks and the entrance is flanked by two columns with bronze statues of a stag and a doe. At night, however, the background local lights of the waterway in front of the entrance make poor lighting. Mandraki harbor is well protected and at the berths is a power and water connection available, a tanker delivers fuel directly to the quay. Shopping On the eastern outer pier there are two circular, small supermarkets that also offer a delivery service. Larger supermarkets are facing the city and can only be reached by taxi or rental car. Food and Leisure Rhodes town has many restaurants, taverns and cafes with a wide selection of Greek and international dishes. Many of them are located in the Old Town of Rhodes, which is located within walking distance to Mandraki harbor. At the entrance of the Mandraki harbor once stood the famous Colossus of Rhodes and the small fort Agios Nikolaou and also 3 windmills on the eastern pier are dating back to the 15th Century . Particularly worth seeing is the old town of Rhodes town, which is surrounded by miles of ramparts and is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
