Kavala Harbour is an important commercial port. Many cargo ships moor at the eastern quay. Ferries also moor here. The bay in the northern corner of the eastern quay is reserved for the fishing boats. One part of the western quay is reserved for the yacht club, visiting boats are not welcome. The odd space is available for visiting boats at the northern quay, to be on the safe side you should ask to be allocated a space. Yachts moor stern-to at the quay at a water depth of up to 7 m. The cargo ships and ferry traffic generate a swell in the harbour. Southerly winds can make mooring difficult in the harbour. The fish market at the harbour is well-known for its large selection and its fresh fish. There are nautical service providers at the harbour and in Kavala. A variety of restaurants and shopping amenities can be found in the town.
