Palairos mainly caters for the needs of the rural population and still seems very traditional. The panorama is framed by the treeless slopes of the Acarnanian mountains right behind the village. The harbour is protected by a breakwater. Yachts moor stern-to at a water depth of up to 3 m. Water and electricity are available in a few places. The harbour is protected from southerly winds, there can be downbursts when a northerly wind blows. There are a variety of taverns and shopping amenities right at the quay and in the village.
