Description

The old port of Kos is a good alternative when the nearby marina is full. However, the harbour is so popular in summer that it is difficult to get a berth. Yachts moor stern-to at the north-eastern quay or on the north-western corner. There are many excursion boats along the main thoroughfare. The port is located right next to the historic centre of Kos and has a large selection of restaurants, taverns, bars, supermarkets and much more.

Safety note

On strong winds from N-NW the approach to Kos harbour can be difficult. The wind creates a heavy breaking of waves. Try to find a place on the east side of the port.
On more than 8 bft. from N-NW the berth especially in the south part are unsustainable.

Ships and ferries can generate heavy swells here. Therefore, it is advisable to make sure the anchor holds well and, if necessary, to keep sufficient distance to the pier.

- From the E the palace, the fort and the minaret in the town are easily seen - From the N and W a large hotel can be seen from some distance off

Beautiful place but usually no berths

What I liked:

Several places have water and electricity (charged). Kos town is a nice but nowadays touristic place.

What I didn't like:

Considerable swell during the Meltemi and really loud during the night.
