Anchorages in Croatia

The Croatian Adriatic is a real paradise for boaters of all kinds: whether by kayak, sailboat or mega yacht - the islands world of Croatia has something to offer for everyone. In addition to an excellent maritime infrastructure with numerous marinas and even more harbors, there are also many anchorages that invite you to swim or stay overnight. Since the Croatian state has discovered water tourism as an interesting source of income, in recent years more and more concessions have been granted for the operation of buoy fields. So you find today in many bays buoy fields, which used to be (free) anchorages before. Since the concessionaires have to pay some considerable fees for the operation to the state or municipality, the anchoring in the vicinity of these buoy fields is not permitted and not gladly seen. Following the opinion about the extension of these buoy fields is divided. Some like the advantages of a place on the buoy with all the advantages and disadvantages while other sailors and motorboats would rather use the anchor.

Nevertheless, there are hundreds of anchorages where you can stay and anchor for free. The anchor ground is usually made of sand with seagrass but also shingle, stone and rocky bottom can be found. Accordingly, the hold of the anchor is different.
