Frikes is a small village at the foot of a wooded bay, It is green here, even in summer. Windmills on a rocky hill above the village serve as navigational aids. The harbour is protected by a breakwater. The ferries moor at the outer section of the breakwater. Expect a swell in the harbour. There are floating jetties north of the breakwater. Inside the harbour, yachts moor “Mediterranean style” at a water depth of up to 8 m. In summer, alongside and raft mooring because of the prevailing winds and downbursts. The water gets shallow quickly at the breakwater and towards the shore. Towards the shore some places are less than 1 m deep. The harbour is protected from winds, but it can get dangerous when a westerly or north-westerly wind blows. The southerly wind likes the swimming jetty and generates a swell, making the anchorage bumpy. A variety of taverns and shopping amenities are to be found within walking distance.
