Marathakampos is a fishing village and lies in the SW of the island of Samos in a restricted military area. Nowadays, tourists are allowed to approach the harbour. But it is forbidden to take photographs. The surrounding area is characterised by steep cliffs and pine trees. The harbour is protected by a breakwater in the south and a smaller breakwater in the east. Visitors anchor in the outer harbour at a water depth of up to 4 m or moor bow-to at the short pier. At the top of the pier the water depth is approx. 2 m, it quickly gets shallower towards the shore. There are a variety of taverns and general stores nearby.
