Description

Bay Vis also known as Luka Vis is a large natural harbour with many different berthing options. It is very popular with sailors and tourists, and gets very busy during the summer season. The two major quays where yachts can moor stern to the quay are on the main town quay, called Luka, to the west and in the area of the harbour to the east called Kut. In these two place there are moorings, electricty and water, as well as small sanitary facilities in Luka. Besides these areas buoy field between these two parts of the harbour and there is a good anchoring spot in the west part of the harbour between the ferry terminal and the church on the peninsula (but yachts have to take care to leave a free passage for the ferry and to the petrol station located next to the ferry terminal. There is also an anchorage NW of the peninsula in the small bay called Stonca which is particularly useful during strong Bura. To the east just south of the entrance is a small peninsula, this is known as Češka Vila (The Czech Villa), eve though this is a safe and quiet part of the harbour that is also good during Bura, but it is often occupied by locals and tourist boats so is not recommended unless necessary. The best places to swim in the bay of Vis are on the NE part of the peninsula with the church, and next to the The Czech Villa. At the western entrance to the Bay of Vis is a good anchorage called Rogačić, but only its most western part is protected from Bura, this part of the bay has a nice beach as well.
